EL RANCHO SCHOOL, INC.
2008 Elementary School Summer Camps

Your child will enjoy a fun-filled summer while experiencing the excitement and joy of learning new things, swimming, and having SUMMER CAMP FUN!  Sign up for select camps, a part-time schedule, or for the whole summer!  Children entering Kindergarten*-2nd grade will have two hours of language arts and mathematics instruction daily.  This will be followed by activities tied to the themes of the camps.  A special high-interest program has been designed for the 3rd-6th graders.  This includes a one-hour daily academic component, hands-on activities related to the camp themes, and many age-appropriate field trips.  The first and last camps of the summer do not have an academic component.  We also offer academic tutoring during the summer.  If you are interested in tutoring, please inquire about availability in the school office.  *Readiness will determine placement in either pre-kindergarten or kindergarten.

SPORTS CAMP:  June 9th - 20th. Basketball, softball, hockey, and track and field.  These two weeks are dedicated to teaching fundamental skills and enjoying the sports.  Each child will have the opportunity to participate in skill-developing clinics and play with age-appropriate teams.  In addition to our campus, the children in grades 2nd-6th will be using a nearby park on some of the mornings of week two †.  During the afternoons, students may choose active or relaxed activities (movies about sports heroes, unstructured play, etc.).

GO GREEN WEEK: June 23rd - 27th. The El Rancho campers will be participating in eco-friendly activities this week. They will plant a flower and herb garden and maintain it throughout the summer, take a field trip to Whole Foods to learn about organic food †, make "raw food" snacks, learn about water and electricity conservation, and make projects using recycled goods.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL CAMP: June 30th - July 3rd.  The children will start out the week by decorating the campus in patriotic colors.  The campers will learn about national heroes, leaders, monuments, symbols, our 50 states, and special places of interest.  They will practice singing patriotic songs.  All campers will design and paint patriotic shirts and the 1st-6th graders will wear them when they walk to El Camino Gardens on July 2nd † to sing to the senior citizens.

AMAZING ANIMAL CAMP: July 7th - 18th. This week is devoted to the wide world of exotic and domestic animals. The children view and draw bird feathers, fish scales, sheep fur, and more, while using a microscope. A local veterinarian will tak to the children about caring for animals, and a dog groomer will give a demonstration. Students will read and write animal stories and watch animal and nature videos. The elementary school are encouraged to bring their pet (snail, horse, fish, WHATEVER) to school for our Pet Parade on July 17th. The parade will begin at 9:30 AM, and all pets not in a cage must go home directly after the parade. There will be ribbons for all participants and certificates for "dressed-up" pets and decorated boxes or cages! The rd - 6th graders will go to the Sacramento Zoo †$ on Thursday, July 10th; departing El Rancho @ 8:45 AM.

ART CAMP: July 21st - August 1st.   Your child will be exposed to the masters in painting, sculpture, and design at El Rancho Art Museum, where reproduction of famous artists will be presented through an interactive program. Children will learn to see art in a subjective format using games and fun activities tailored to your child's age group. The museum games will be followed up with age-appropriate experiences using art media in the classroom to simulate the styles, methods, colors, and patterns of the artists whose works they have observed and learned about. A wide variety of media will be used, from paints, to collage, to sculpture. We will culminate these weeks with an art show, showcasing fine examples of creative work done by the children. Upper grade students will paint and fire ceramic items at Alpha Fired Arts on July 24th †$, and take a field trip to the Crocker Art Museum on July 29th †$.

"I CAN DO IT MYSELF" CAMP:  August 4th - 8th.  Students will learn basic sewing and cooking, how to use the washing machine and dishwasher, give a dog a bath, make a bed, sweep and wash a floor, vacuum, set a table, sort laundry, iron a shirt, etc. An important gift for a child is to help him or her become a capable, independent person. The camp teaches children important life skills in a fun way.

SPLASH CAMP:  August 11th - 15th.  Back by popular demand!  Enjoy your summer vacation with a SPLASH!  The children will enjoy relay races in the pool, watermelon-raft races, student-made boat races, water balloon games, making and playing with bubbles, and jumping in the bounce house.  We will open our pool for one hour of free swim, at no additional charge, on three afternoons this week!

SWIMMING LESSONS:  June 9th - August 15th.  Our super swimmers enrolled in swimming lessons will be performing at the ERS Swim Show on Thursday, August 14th.  To sign up, please complete and return the Summer Swimming Lesson Information & Permission form.
