SCIENCE EQUIPMENT
AND COMPUTERS

Science: The elementary school
teachers have the equivalent to a well equipped high school
laboratory of science equipment available to them to conduct
hands-on experiments. This includes six instrument-quality
microscopes (one, a dissecting microscope) and slides, standard and
metric measuring equipment for liquids, solids, and linear
measurement. |
| Children's interest and
enthusiasm for knowledge of the world is further enhanced by short
children's videos showcasing the lives of men and women who became
great scientists and inventors. |
| Computers: There are 23
student-designated Pentium class CPU's that are multi-media
capable. They use the Microsoft Windows operating
system. There are six or more computers in the third - sixth
grade classrooms that have internet access via DSL lines. The
use of computers by the students in these grades directly correlates
to the curriculum taught in class. Some examples are
activities such as finding synonyms and antonyms for spelling words,
following the Alaskan dog sled race, publishing poetry and short
stories, researching information, and typing reports. |
